Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis. OA ultimately results in cartilage degeneration, chronic knee pain, and disability. In 2010, knee OA was the 11th leading cause of disability worldwide, with increasing incidence over the last 2 decades.  Current treatments have little impact on the progressive degeneration of articular cartilage. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have emerged as a cell type with a great therapeutic benefit for cell-based articular cartilage repair in patients with knee OA. MSC treatment improves knee pain, physical function, and cartilage quality, without any adverse events.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a long-term autoimmune disorder that primarily affects joints. It typically results in warm, swollen, and painful joints. Pain and stiffness often worsen following rest. Most commonly, the wrist and hands are involved, with the same joints typically involved on both sides of the body. MSC not only have tissue regeneration capabilities but also and a strong immunosuppressive potential by inducing TGF-β1 and Treg, suppressing T cell proliferation. MSC treatment reduces aggressive immunity, improves joint health and reduced tissue abnormalities.

Psoriatic arthritis is a type of arthritis that develops in some people with the skin condition psoriasis. It typically causes affected joints to become inflamed (swollen), stiff and painful. Like psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis is a long-term condition that can get progressively worse. MSCs involvement in psoriasis follows 4 aspects: migration to skin lesions, immunomodulation, limitation of autoimmunity, and local paracrine effects. These mechanisms of stem cell therapy can improve and suppress psoriasis in our patients.

How stem cell treatment for Arthritis works:
