Passage 1 Mesenchymal Stem Cells

Passage 1 Mesenchymal Stem Cells  (P1 MSCs)

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are progenitor cells, meaning they are cells that can differentiate and become other cells. In fact, they are the cells from which all other cells are derived. Mesenchymal stem cells are grouped between the term “multipotent” and the term “pluripotent.”

MSCs in culture are adherent, proliferating, and capable of multilineage differentiation into many tissues such as chondrocytes, osteoblasts, myocytes, and neurons.

MSCs also produce a range of secretions such as RNA, growth factors & anti-inflammatory cytokines, which is unique to P1 as with further culture these secretions levels diminish.

What makes MSCs unique is that when they’re cultured outside the body, they multiply quickly but don’t differentiate into anything specific until a unique stimulus is applied. What that means is that by culturing these cells, a large number of them can be grown in a relatively short period. The regenerative and therapeutic potential is obvious.

SC21 P1 MSCs are immunomodulatory and regenerative cells originally isolated from the umbilical cord tissue.

MSCs start to lose their stem cell characteristics almost undetectably from the moment in vitro culture begins. Utilising MSC as early as possible, in therapeutic numbers will deliver the highest levels of regenerative and immune modulation potential.

When looking at the Telomere length as a marker of aging, cells with telomere shortening are expected to have reduced proliferative, differentiative and homing capacity. From our data UCMSC expansion of beyond 10 population doublings leads to an average loss of 2.5-3.5 kb of telomere sequence, this loss is significant. This telomere shortening & stem cell functionality decline amplifies with further culture exceeding 10 population doublings.

SC21 produce P1 UCMSCs with a non-enzymatic cell culture method which produces higher yields, higher viability, higher expression of mitosis and cell cycle-related genes, and a unique secretion profile of growth factors & cytokines.

Key Features of SC21 P1 MSCs

  • Non-Enzymatic Digestion-Derived MSCs
  • Passage 1 culture (restricted doublings)
  • Higher levels of cell viability (95%+)
  • Minimal telomere shortening
  • Primed for mitosis
  • High rates of cell secretions
  • High levels of immune modulation
  • Positive Markers: CD73+/CD90+/CD105+
  • Negative Markers: CD14-/CD20-/CD34-/CD45-
